The waiting game

Dear Husbad asks me almost daily: 'Have you heard from your agent? What's happening?'

The answers are usually: 'no' and 'lots'. Nathan Bransford explains why, far better than I ever could here.

I know my novel has been submitted. Via my agent I have answered one question from an editor (a procedural question that implied neither approval or disapproval). So I know it's out there. I know it's being read. Now I just have to wait and it could be for a long, long time... Pull up a chair!

Don't worry, I'm sure a big fat offer will be winging its way to you soon enough. :)

Hi McK,

I just posted another comment here that didn't get through- I can't figure out why-

Anyway - the gist of it was that I hadn't thought much about what what happens after the brass ring of acquiring an agent occurs, until you mentioned it.

I know, from my own DH asking me, because he's interested for you, (as yours is about the editor), when will I be finished writing this novel, do I think, the parts he's read look finished to him, etc., and it makes me nervous, all that asking, even though I know the asking comes from a warm place ---

it's nerve-wracking, having your own anxieties spoken aloud by someone. So- no finger crossed by me for you- because you don't need them - you're very, very good - but I will be wishing for you that the process ends soon, so you can move on and give us an estimated publication date.

Just as now, an occasional update is good to hear - but no pressure.

It takes what it takes - unfortunately. Miss Snark often talked about how some of the best projects took years and some went quickly. It will happen - just not on your (or your hubby's) time.

LOL, Conduit, let's hope so!

Hi Robin! It is weird being on this next stage. I find I still have the urge to keep sending things out to agents, which is ridiculous! And I still have the fear of rejection: 'What if no publishers like it?' 'What if I find myself unagented again in a few months?' 'What if I'm an illiterate idiot?' (Do not answer these...) I suppose I'm learning that I may have control freak tendencies that are useless in this situation.

That's right Sarah - this is a time scale I have no influence on other than keeping my fingers crossed.

I will update whenever there is anything to update, good or bad. You get the whole warty koala here on this blog.
