Driving Induces Vomit

Thank you for your kind thoughts on the previous post, I'm a happy Koala to have finished. Must psyche self up to do those edits, before I forget 'em though, otherwise I know it won't make sense when I pull it out of the drawer!

But let's move away from writing for a while, to the trials of everyday life. Like driving along one of Sydney's major arteries, as I did today. Parramatta Road is a two, sometimes three lane road, not a motorway or highway as such, but one of the main roads that slice up the city, running from the centre out to the suburbs. A highway does run parallel to it, and, man, I wish I had been on that highway today. I hadn't been along Parramatta Road in a while, and I vaguely remembered it being very busy and lined with shopping centres, factories and offices, of varying degrees of tattiness. That was spot on. What I had forgotten was how rough the road surface is. As I drove along it, my poor old car (note: sedan, not 4WD, alas) yawed from side to side, simultaneously plunging down into potholes, or up over dodgy pothole repairs. It was like being on a ride at Disneyland (:-)). Except it went on for much longer. I don't get travel sick, however, after 20 minutes or so of this, not only was I feeling green, but dizzy, and wondering if I needed to pull off and take a break.

There's not much point to this, other than a whinge. I survived. I was outraged. The meeting went well, thanks. I had a nice cup of tea.

And that, my friends, is bathos and your post for today.

Glad to see you survived.

I wonder how you looked when you had turned green? Something on the lines of Master Yoda I guess? :D :D :D

Am sure they are! :-)

Is that Shona the real name for McK?

A green koala? Doesn't bear thinking about.

Ssssh, Aniket. Maybe. Or maybe not. She's certainly a good friend of mine.

Speaking of names - why did you change yours?!

:D I visited your/hers site thats still under construction. :P

Well do You know Joaquin? You must visit his blog if you don't (http://lyricsandmaladies.blogspot.com/). A great poet.

So I was having a discussion with a friend on my blog, that spanish names sound so cool like Ernesto Guevara De la serna... or Don Alejandro de la Vega.

On reading this Joaquin gave me this moniker that means Aniket of a thousand lights. Uber Cool right?

Since I liked it so much, I am sporting the name for a while. :)

It does sound cool. But I think Aniket sounds good too.

Hm, wonder what McKoala would translate to?

I can only take switchback mountain roads if I'm driving. When driving, I'm almost always okay, but if I'm a passenger, particularly in the back, I can get some nice motion sickness going. Fun times. You don't want to hear the story of me at 8 or so and the large chocolate bar on the drive from Texas to Louisiana.

Oh damnation, McKy. I have actually been writing my little tush off, just not recording. Check it out now!

LOL, Sarah, I did see this once before. I considered suing for the defamation of my name, but it's so hard to get lawyers up the eucalypt these days.

Paca, one of my friends once projectile vomited on to the back of his father's head while said father was driving. Did it kind of go like that?!

Aerin, I'm checking you out...

I can do these kinds of roads if I'm driving - but if I'm in the back seat, my stomach turns. And turns.

And no tea for me after- I have to have a non-Diet Coke, with plenty of ice in the glass.

Anyway, after all that, glad the meeting went well, girl!

I get motion sickness very easily, so my heart is out for you today.

I drove up Pikes Peak a couple of years ago. Coming down was harder, because you had to worry about burning out the brakes then careening out of control...
I had the kids with me, and they acted as a soothing balm.
