June reporting!

Success or shame? In June have you...

Submitted a short story, poem or other short fiction submission to a competition or magazine (one point for each submission)?

Submitted an article (one point per article, no matter how many mags the article is submitted to)?

Written and/or edited at least 4000 words (one point)?

Written more than the basic 4000 words (one additional point for each 2000 words of original writing (not editing)?

Edited more than the basic 4000 words (one additional point for each 5000 words of editing) ?

Outlined/plotted 4000 words or more (one point for each 4000)?

Beta-read read a fellow writer's novel and provided feedback (one point)?

Completed and published a new author website (one point)?

Written your query? (one point)

Written your synopsis? (one point)

Submitted a novel to an agent or editor? (Straight up to Koala Approves!)

(Anyone who's on Koala Approves while waiting for an agent response, remember that you must keep writing/editing/submitting short stories in the next month. Anyone sitting on their laurels drops down a stage. However, if an agent asks you to make changes to a novel, you get to stay on Koala Approves for the duration of your editing and negotiations, provided you get those changes to him/her in time and remember your manners. Ask for an extension or moan about your potential agent and you drop down a stage.)

A reminder... Points cannot be held over for a following month. The Koala wants consistent effort. The Koala is always right.

With the Submission of the Great Dissertation (making Paca into Doctor Paca) and the Commencement of the Great Blog (making Phoenix into Evil Editor Birdie), there are no more Special Furry or Bird Rules.

***Bonus! If you took part in Paca's voice challenge, give yourself a point!!!***

1 point = submitted 1 short story to one lit mag

1 point = Paca's voice challenge participation

7 points = editing 32K of my manuscript (yes, I've been going over it with a fine-toothed comb and revisiting parts of it for work, with the help of very astute critique group friends.)

= 9 points

Also have sent out 4 queries for novel in the past few days. Not sure how those count?

Go Robin!!!

It's one point PER submission to an agent or editor? I am truly too ashamed to say just how many points I'm racking up.

Let's spin it a bit, shall we, and just say I got 2 requests for partials and 2 for fulls in June. So I'm holding on to the Approval badge. At least someone approves of something I'm doing writing-wise...

(stupid typos)

(Sorry, McKoala, for the re-post. Realized my own reading comprehension fail a weeeee bit too late.)

1 story submission
1 (small) contest submission (but I won!)
1 re-written-from-scratch query letter
6,400 words writing
7,000 words editing

= 6 points

I've actually had a good month. A solid 20 points and a Koala approves as well.

Go, Robin, go!
Phoenix, you rock with the two requests for fulls. Muy bien.

For my part, I wrote about 4,000 words this month. 1 point.

I also did Paca's voice thingy. 1 point.

And just now I managed to sneak in one novel submission before the end of June. I had hoped to do three, but I had too many meetings today. I might submit a couple more tonight after I get home from work.

Serious Huzzahs for Robin, Phoenix and Travis. Sounds like you did well, too, there Pete.

Seriously sucky 1 point month for me. Would pull an all nighter, but am just now getting over this cold or whatever the heck it is.

Almost done with health issues (I hope!)

I claim 3 points for subs, and counting together the scribblings and editings I claim a foourth. Might be entitled to a fifth, but I am too tired to count anymore.

That makes... four?

That's me this month, reporting live from Duotrope Hell.

Written 4000 words and one story submission. I'm getting good at bordering on 2 points. Slipping under the radar has always been one of my treasured skills. :D

Can I borrow, Aerin's point too?

McKoala said...

Hm, thinking of awarding a point simply for reporting in...

Oh, and I'm on approves again. Smugness. (Because I sent out a novel submission right at the end of the month in order to save myself!).

5 story submissions = 5
21K words editing = 4
story synopsis = 1

10 pts, yay!

PS -- congrats to Travis! That's pretty awesome! :D

You guys are rocking it.

In my first month without special furry rules, I get one point - for participating in my own voice thingie.

Didn't write 4k, didn't get around to the voice challenge. :( I'll be looking nervously over my shoulder... And I'm on vacation the last two weeks of the month, too. I'll be on a road trip (going to visit Bernita, woot!) for part of it and doing lovely home improvement projects the rest of the time. I doubt I'll be very productive this month, either.

Should have said I'll be on vacation the last 2 weeks of THIS month (July.) Which is why I doubt I'll get enough writing done.

1 Beta read a novel 1
3 Edited, or post proofer edited, rather, half a novel, but will only claim 3, because post-proof wasn't that hard even if I pulled half my hair out. Angie pointed and laughed.

1 for one sub letter
1 for one story submitted
14 (?) for 24k of new words.

-1 for reporting late. *cringes*

I'm claiming 1 for outlines, 1 for query, 1 for multiple subs, 1 for revisions and edits.

So that's 4.

submitted 2 short stories +2 points
wrote one synopsis for new WIP +1 point
Edited 8,000 words +1 point
Paca's voice challenge: +1 point
sent novel query to 11 agents +approves

Some people are just chronic overachievers. Hmmpphh.

Go, Phoenix and Travis! WHOO-HOO for double-full requests!

Kate said...

I wrote at least 4k, so I'll claim 1 point.
